The Vocal Habit That Women Are Being Criticized for at Work (video)

FROM THE VIDEO

Both men and women use "vocal fry," the tendency to lower their voices at the end of words and phrases. A language scholar explores what causes the sound and why women are more likely to be criticized for it. Illustration: Heather Seidel/The Wall Street Journal

--Wall Street Journal [JB note -- A disappointing video/comment, but does it not signal the degradation/disappearance of the tradition of gentle (dare I say, as a person of the "male" gender) of women's vocal chords, at least as interpreted in mass media/ some literature? If, indeed, such chords existed in the first place; Cleopatra, were she still with us, might have an answer to this question) ... I wonder how she would "fry"on a cell-phone :)]
