The shock of the past - how to "fix" it

image from

Given efforts to reinvent history on USA campuses these days (see numberless articles on this matter, among them), am working on an article, "the shock of the past" -- with the simple point that some students who know little or nothing about history are shocked -- so shocked! -- that the past is no present, what they contend it ought to be.

Another point of the piece would be that the "shock of the past" is more traumatic to millennials (whoever they might be; another silly sociological category?) than the "shock of the future," which young people live with from day to day -- so it's a "normal" shock for them.

Like, why should I worry about the "impact" of iphones?

After all, as of now, with all our modern technological "advancements," you can shape the present/future.

But not the past. It's there; to be sure, subject to interpretations and invalidations.

So time for a time machine to "fix the 'past-determination problem'" in an all-American, technological, ahistorical way.

Get ready to buy your "change the past" app NOW!!!  Or better, as you prepare your future nest-egg, invest in the "Change History Corporation"  [CHC] NOW!!! Chairman: Big Brother.

Thanks LH for the inspiration.
