[The price of the GOP’s bargain with Trump]

John Brown

"But the price of the GOP’s bargain with Trump ... has continued to rise. Republicans in Congress now not only have to swallow Trump’s erratic narcissism, but also his assaults on the very core principles that supposedly define their politics: fiscal conservatism, free trade, the global world order, our allies, truth and the rule of law."

John Brown Making comparisons between interwar Euro dictators (Hitler, Mussolini, Stalin) with the "trumptrap" (as you [a brilliant Fb commentator put it] in a memorable verbal construction) could be adangerous/misleading from a historical perspective; but -- and this is a wild generalization -- the interwar Euro "useful idiots" were -- eventually -- "smart" enough to grab power from the amoral powers that handed out some of their power to them, hoping stupidly that they -- the amoral powers -- could "control" them -- the useful idiots -- (amorality is what these two group really had in common -- and used against each other).
Guess who "won"? (but ultimately lost) ....
