THE GOOD NEWS FROM THE MAY 1 DEMONSTRATIONS:
1. Hysteria notwithstanding, freedom of expression is alive here.
2. A lot of demonstrators either haven't (a) lost their sense of humor ("Hell is ours!"); (b) lost their sense of historical irony (neo-Nazis marching in SPb, people carrying portraits of Dostoevsky and Stalin in close proximity); or (c) retained anything like all their marbles (Communist Party marcher carrying a Beria poster).
How does that classic curse go? May you live in interesting times...
