Robert Conquest passed away on Monday.

John Brown Unless I have gone completely senile, I recall having had the privilege of doing minor research work for the gentlemanly Conquest while being temporarily employed at the Kennan Institute for Advanced Russian Studies in the late 70s. What struck me the most about him -- given his intellectual accomplishments -- was his very human humility, a quality not always found among the academically-inclined.
