Could this tragic situation have been avoided? A piece written some ten years ago -- granted, not without its faults, but not meant to be offensive to Ukrainians or anyone else -- had suggested a "Czechoslovak" solution for Ukraine, perhaps unrealistic in that part of the world today, given what is essentially a warlike situation in eastern Ukraine.
